My name is Aaron Bold and I play lacrosse eight months out of the year. Four months in my home town of Victoria, BC, and four months in the National Lacrosse League for the Washington Stealth. Growing up I was very athletic and seemed to acquire new skills rather quickly in every sport I played. My first athletic career (if you could call it that) was playing baseball with my two brothers. I played until I was thirteen years old; accomplishing being on the "A" BC team and winning many provincial titles. Around this time I needed a more physical sport. One day at the baseball field I glance over during practice at a lacrosse box and saw the kids playing this very interesting game. The game was fast pace with big hits and lots of goals. I was hooked right away and decided to drop baseball and venture into the game of lacrosse. I was very scared my first practice not knowing what to expect. I started playing as a defenseman until our coach was noticing we had no one to go in net. He asked the question "Does anyone want to try out being our goalie for the season?" I hesitantly raise my hand and said "sure I'll try it out." And ever since that moment in time I've been a goalie. I had natural reflexes for the position and I loved the competitiveness, and the ability to win the game for the team when it came to those close scoring games.
My younger years of accomplishments included BC gold medal wins, team BC silver medals and being named MVP, and top goaltender in the league a handful of times. As I started to get older and the competition got more intense winning titles were harder to come by. On the west coast after the age of sixteen you move into intermediate lacrosse where you played two years, then move onto Jr. playing three years. I was fortunate enough to have won the national title or Minto Cup with the Peterborough Lakers in 2006, my last year in junior lacrosse. Winning the Minto cup is the hardest championship to win in lacrosse because you only have three years to win it. Nevertheless it's by far my most memorial accomplishment in lacrosse to date. With my skill level and determination to become the best goalie I could be, I was fortunate to be a part of the Intermediate Shamrocks, junior Shamrock, and currently playing for the senior Shamrocks.
One my favourite parts of the game besides winning is the young kids that look up to you and want to become what you've accomplished. No matter how big of a loss you take in lacrosse coming out to sign an autograph for a young lacrosse with your jersey on always puts a smile on your face! All the young lacrosse players wanting a career in this game should always think "practice and determination makes perfect." If you practice countless hours, have the will to succeed, and have fun while doing it, nothing will ever stand in your way.
I'm currently using Vege Greens, Nutra Sea, glutamine, Isoflex, Black Power as well as a balanced workout routine. In my short four month off season I try to balance my training by gaining strength and mass through weight training and plyometrics. Then use interval training to boost my cardio which I tag team with more sports specific skills and speed training once the season approaches. I'm currently training for the upcoming NLL season for the Washington Stealth. I'm hoping with all my hard work and countless hours in the gym and at the lacrosse box will give me the edge to become the starting goalie in this upcoming NLL season!
