St. John's, Newfoundland
Golfer / hockey / bodybuilding
My name is Kyle Pardy and I was born in Deer Lake Newfoundland, and currently live in St. John's, Newfoundland while attending Memorial University of Newfoundland where I am studying business administration. I train six days a week at a local gym for about 2 hrs a day. In the summer I play and teach golf professionally every day starting mid April and through September. I compete in tournaments ranging from Newfoundland to Alberta with the bulk of recent competitions taking place in Alberta. This past summer I was the runner-up in the Alberta Professional Golf Assistants Championship. Before turning professional I competed in the junior ranks and became one of the top golfers in Newfoundland. I then earned the right to compete on a National level in Ontario and New Brunswick.
I have also been playing junior hockey in St. Johns for the last three years in the co-operators St. John's Junior Hockey League. I am currently a member of the defending champions, Mask Security Junior Celtics. In three seasons I have recorded 69 points in just 64 games played, with 35 goals. Last year I traveled to PEI with the Celtics to represent NL at the Atlantic junior hockey championship, the Don Johnson Cup. We are currently finishing up our regular season play and entering the playoffs shortly.
Once I finish my education I plan to devote more time to playing golf year round and qualifying for the Canadian Golf Tour, earning the right to compete against some of the best in the world. I hope to continue to play hockey on the senior level upon graduating from junior at the age of 21.
I recommend to all young aspiring athletes to never give up and never count yourself out. As a golfer who was raised in Newfoundland, my golf season was only two good months of the year so my back was against the wall from the start, competing against other players from British Columbia who may play nearly year round. I was told it was impossible but I have been a recognized member of the Canadian Golf Association (CPGA) for almost one year now.
