My name is Darnell Collins. I have been working out consistently for about three years, but also weight trained on and off for two years prior. In November 2007, I was approached by Craig Bonnett (my current trainer/mentor) about possibly competing in bodybuilding. Up until this point, I was not fully aware what the sport of bodybuilding really was. After some research, I decided to take this advice and try competing. Each year, Craig's physique consulting & personal training company, ContestPrep.ca, helps to grow the sport of bodybuilding by selecting a junior competitor to sponsor for the season, and I was chosen as the 2008 ContestPrep.ca Sponsored Junior Athlete! They would help me with everything I needed to know in order to be successful. After three months of intense training, I stepped on stage in my first bodybuilding show. I won the Junior Bodybuilding Category and placed second in the open Men's Welterweight Division at the MABBA Novice Championships (March/08, Winnipeg, Manitoba). I competed two more times that same year. At MABBA's Provincials (May/08), I placed first in the Junior Category to earn the title of Jr. Mr Manitoba 2008, and second in the Men's Welterweight Division. With Craig's suggestion, I made a last minute decision to then enter the CBBF World Qualifiers a few weeks after the provincial show — and ended up winning first in the Junior Category, qualifying me for the IFBB World Amateur Championships in the Czech Republic. I enjoyed many achievements during my debut season, which fuelled me to train harder and reach higher. After a successful nine month off-season, I decided to take it to the next level and compete nationally at the 2009 CBBF Championships in British Columbia. I took 1st in the Junior Category, becoming Jr. Mr. Canada 2009 and also placed 12th out of 16 in the very competitive Men's Middle Weight Class. Thanks to my success, I was fortunate enough to be approached and signed by Fusion Bodybuilding. I believe with the help of Fusion, I will be able to achieve all of my goals and move towards becoming an IFBB Pro Bodybuilder. By having the supplements that I need in order to reach my goals, at prices that are better than their competitions. Also, Paul of Popeye's Winnipeg is a great supporter of ContestPrep.ca competitive athletes. Check out Darnell's ContestPrep.ca Champion Feature! I would like to give a special thanks to Craig & Julie Bonnett. Without them, I would have never become involved in bodybuilding. Big thanks to Adrian Burke of FUSION Bodybuilding for giving me an opportunity to work with and be a part of such a great company. Also, my mom, family and friends for being great supporters and doing all they can to help me succeed.
